Novatec’s solar boiler has commenced operations at the Liddell Power Station in New South Wales, Australia. The solar boiler acts as a fuel-saver by feeding steam into the existing coal fired power station and reducing the coal required to operate the facility. The Liddell Power Station is owned by Australian utility, Macquarie Generation.
The Chairman of Novatec Solar’s Shareholder Committee, Nicholas James, has announced the appointment of Andreas Wittke as Chief Executive Officer and Member of the Management Board.
Puerto Errado 2, the 30MW solar thermal power station built by Novatec Solar using its proprietary solar field technology, has been completed and is in operation.
Novatec Solar and ABB are Silver Sponsor at SolarPACES conference 2012 in Marrakech, Morocco. Please visit us at our booth N°21.
The Chairman of Novatec Solar’s Shareholder Committee, Guido Belgiorno-Nettis, has announced the appointment of Oliver Mundle as Chief Financial Officer and Member of the Management Board.

Novatec Solar has joined ABB in entering the South African CSP market. ABB has signed an agreement with FG Emvelo, an independent solar power plant company, to develop high-efficiency concentrating solar power (CSP) plants at Karoshoek Solar Valley in Northern Cape province, South Africa.
The latest version of NREL's System Advisor Model (SAM) includes the embedded "Novatec Solar Boiler" sample file, allowing the user to model commercially available Fresnel solar boilers.
ABB and Novatec Solar are exhibiting at CSP Today Conference in Johannesburg. We would like to invite our customers to meet our team at booth N°7.
Dr.-Ing. Max Mertins has been awarded the Otto-Haxel prize of the "Freundeskreis des Forschungszentrums Karlsruhe e. V." (friends of the research centre Karlsruhe e.V.) for his scientific works in regard to Novatec’s Fresnel collector technology.
Novatec Solar has been awarded the Technology Innovation Award 2011 for achievements in the development of its Linear Fresnel collector technology.
Novatec Solar’s Fresnel collector has successfully generated superheated steam at temperatures above 500°C at its 1.4 megawatt (MW) demonstration plant in Murcia, Spain, by implementing an innovative receiver design.
Calasparra, Spain – The world’s largest Linear Fresnel solar power station is the first of its kind to reach financial close using limited recourse project finance debt funding. The focus of this landmark transaction is Tubo Sol PE2 S.L.’s 30MW concentrated solar power station in Murcia, Spain.
Karlsruhe, Germany – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has signed an agreement to buy a 35 percent shareholding in Novatec Solar, an innovative Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) technology company based in Karlsruhe, Germany. The investment includes an option to acquire 100 percent of Novatec Solar and an agreement to cooperate on future solar power plant projects. The companies agreed not to disclose financial details of the transaction.
Novatec Solar has been awarded the contract to build a new 9MWth solar field at Liddell, which will complement the existing plant, a world first integration of solar thermal technology with a traditional power station.
Novatec Solar has started the development of its new Supernova product. The new generation solar field is designed for direct steam generation with a temperature of 450°C.
Supernova is based on the German company’s proven Nova-1 Fresnel- collector system, which allows for steam generation of up to 270 °C. The higher temperature of the steam generated by Supernova will make it particularly suitable for use in solar thermal power plants in the earth's Sunbelt.
The world’s first utility-scale solar thermal power plant based on Linear Fresnel technology has started construction in Murcia, Spain. The 30MW Puerto Errado 2 plant represents a breakthrough in solar power, as a large-scale low-cost plant, and also as the largest direct steam generator. The plant uses proprietary solar field technology developed by Novatec Solar, a company majority owned by Transfield Holdings.
Novatec Solar has appointed a group of leading international banks to arrange a non-recourse project finance loan of up to Euro 90 million for the construction of PE2, a 30 MW Solar Power Plant in Spain.
The Spanish Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Miguel Sebastián Gascón, announced the pre-registration of PE2, a 30 MW Solar Power Plant based on innovative solar power technology developed by Novatec Solar.
The Swiss utility company EBL secures an investment of 85 % for construction and operation of the solar thermal power plant PE 2, designed and developed by Novatec Solar. Industriellen Werke Basel (IWB) are also likely to invest in this project.
